“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory” (1 Timothy 3:16).
Isaiah foretold the coming of this God, when he prophesied saying, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given… And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6).
If anyone was in doubt, Isaiah elaborated saying, “The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel” (Isaiah 9:8). He is Jesus Christ the Son of God.
At the time appointed by God, the Word of God, the Word we read in the Bible was made flesh. The eternal Word became flesh with a human body and was brought up in Nazareth. That is why He is called Jesus of Nazareth.
The apostle John wrote saying, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
When the Word became flesh, God told His angels to worship Him: “When He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, let all the angels of God worship Him” (Hebrews 1:6).
That is why, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, after the angel spoke to the shepherds. We read, “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God” (Luke 2:13).
Multitude of holy angels was praising God because the Word manifested in the flesh was God, as it is written: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
Philippians 2:9 says: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him.” God has highly exalted the Holy Bible and given Him a name, the name of Jesus. Did you know that Jesus is the name of the Word of God?
God gave the Bible the name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, that everyone should confess that the Word of God is the Lord, and that He came as an actual flesh-and-blood person (see 1 John 4:2).
Today, we see Christ only through the Bible: “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer” (2 Corinthians 5:16).
