The Good Confession

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Whom should we confess? We should confess the Word of God. Then what should we do? We should tell others the Bible truth that the Word of God is the resurrected Son of God, and then we shall be saved.

The apostle Peter wrote, “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).

Peter is saying that the Scripture is the confirmed Word of prophecy, confirmed by God Himself. He is the day dawn and the morning star. Do you know that the Bible is the Bright and the Morning Star?

The Bible is that confirmed prophetic Word. Peter says the Scripture is the greater Prophet. We have the greater speaker, who speaks better things, and if you believe and testify of this greater Prophet you shall be saved.

John the Baptist’s testimony of Christ is instructive, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, who are you? John responded with the truth, “He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, I am not the Christ” (John 1:20).

He did not keep quiet but spoke out and said, “I am not the Christ.” If he had been quiet, that would have meant denying Christ. John’s testimony did not end there, he spoke of Christ:

“John answered them, saying, I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose” (John 1:26-27).

Don’t we have the Bible? Is the Word not among us? Scripture says: “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). He is with us. We should lift up the Word of God.

Jesus said this: “Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God” (Luke 12:8-9).

God wants us to confess the truth of the Scripture, and it is the work of God’s people to uphold the Bible. Jesus Himself said, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up” (John 3:14).

The Word of God, the Word we read in the Bible, must be lifted up, must be exalted, must be advertised, the same way Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so that people may see Him and believe in Him so they might be saved.

PRAYER
Dear Lord, fill my heart and tongue with your Spirit and power to preach the gospel truth of the Bible, in Jesus name. Amen.
