“But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24).
Paul wrote, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans 1:16). Christ is the power of God.
Who is Christ? The Bible says Christ is the Word of God that was made a human (John 1:14). The Word of God was made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, and God gave the same Word through the Bible.
All Scripture is the spoken Word of the Holy Spirit. God created all things through the spoken Word, as it is written; “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth” (Psalm 33:6).
The apostles and prophets were the spokespersons for God. The Lord God used the apostles and prophets as His human speakers and writers to speak and to write the Scripture (2 Peter 1:20-21).
Therefore, the Bible is ‘the Word of God in print.’ God Himself is speaking to us through the Scripture. You cannot see Him, but you can hear the voice of His Word from the Scripture: “For the word of God is living and powerful” (Hebrews 4:12).
God has lifted up Jesus, the Word of God, far above all power and all authority and all governments, and Jesus claimed it when he said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18).
There was a man, an officer in the Roman government who had a position of authority, and his servant was sick. The officer said to Jesus, “But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed” (Matthew 8:8).
The Lord Jesus commented to the crowd around Him saying, “I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel” because the officer had faith in the Word of Christ (see Matthew 8:10).
The officer was not looking at Jesus with the eyes of the flesh, but saw Jesus through the Word, the authority He had. The officer knew when he give instructions people obey, but that Jesus is greater. He is the Lord.
This man lifted the Word up in his heart through his confession, saying, “For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes” (Matthew 8:9).
When we lift the Holy Scripture up in our hearts, and preach the Word of God to others, that’s how we lift Jesus up. Jesus said, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up” (John 3:14).
We should lift the Bible up anytime and anywhere. Lift up the Word of God in your heart. Speak highly of the Scripture, and tell people that Christ is the Word of God, and He is the Blessed and Undisputed Ruler (see 1 Timothy 6:15).
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, fill me with Holy Spirit and power to preach your Word, in Jesus name. Amen.
