A Word To The Wise
“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning” (Proverbs 9:9).
Paul wrote to Timothy reminding him of the Word of God that can make him wise: “And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15).
Mankind has been tutored or trained that wisdom could be attained from self- development. That is what James the apostle describes in the Scripture as earthly, fleshly and demonic (see James 3:13-15).
The wisdom of God is not self-development, but faith in the only wise God: “To God our Saviour, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen” (Jude 25).
This is the reason Scripture says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).
The Word of God in the Bible is the wisdom of God, and for us to be truly wise we must turn to the Bible. The psalmist says, “You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me” (Psalm 119:98).
To every true believer in Christ, the Word of God is the only wise God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, as it is written: “But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24).
Again the Scripture says: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly” (Proverbs 2:6-7).
God wants us to receive the principal thing, which is every Word from the mouth of God. Jesus said to Martha, “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42).
The Bible is that Word to the wise and the only thing needed. Scripture says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7).
PRAYER
Dear Lord, open my mind to understand the Scriptures. Amen.
