“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17).
Every Word that came down from God is perfect. The psalmist says, “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7).
All Scripture came down from God, and they are good and perfect because they came from the perfect God, as it is written: “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).
Someone said to Jesus, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” Jesus replied, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments” (Matthew 19:16-17).
The Word of God is that good and perfect One; all humans are imperfect. We can only become perfect if we keep Christ, the Word of God, for He alone is the good and the perfect One.
Jesus said to the woman of Samaria who came to draw water, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water” (John 4:10).
The woman was thinking of the natural water. Jesus, however, was talking of the Scripture, which is living water. As Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38).
Anyone who believes in the Scripture, and receives the Bible as that good and that perfect gift from God, shall be filled with the Spirit of the Word. The Spirit of the Scripture is the gift and the Promise of the Father.
That’s why Jesus said to His disciples, “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
Jesus was speaking about the spiritual understanding of the Scripture that would come upon His disciples. That the disciples would receive power to witness the Word of God after the Holy Spirit of the Bible comes upon them (see Acts 1:8).
God’s Promise is to give us spiritual wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of His Word. It is the Holy Spirit that enlightens the eyes of our mind to understand the Bible, so that we can receive the gift of the Holy Scripture (see John 14:26).
We must receive the Son of God, which is the Word of God, before we can receive the Spirit of the Bible, which is the Father. That’s why Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
The Holy Spirit of God gave birth to all Scripture. Only those who believe and open their hearts to the Word can receive the gift of God. Whoever receives the Bible as the true Word of God shall be filled with the Spirit of the Bible (see Acts 10:44).
When we love the Word of God and keep the Scripture in our heart, the Holy Spirit of the Bible, which is the Father, will also love us, and the Father and His Son will come into us and dwell permanently (see John 14:23).
